1.depends how you turn

verto(Latin verb) = to turn

If your thoughts are constantly turned inward (intro-), you are an introvert; outward (extro-), an extrovert; in both directions (ambi-), an ambivert.

ambidextrous * = able to use both hands with equal skill
ambidexterity (n.)(skill in the use of both hands)

dexterous *= skillful

二つの * はスペルに注意!

 と、死をも意識する重篤な病状にあることを繰り返し綴っている。巨泉氏の豪放磊落なイメージからは想像できないほど、深刻な状態にあるようだ。こ の最終回の原稿も、妻と弟のサポートを受けて何とか完成までもっていけたものだという。その最終回の原稿の最後は、こんな文章で締められている。


「何時まで生きられるかわからない」「ボクにはこれ以上の体力も気力もありません」と死を意識する壮絶な状況のなか、巨泉氏がまさに最後の力を振り 絞って綴った、「最後の遺言」。それは、「改憲」を争点からひた隠しにして参院選を行い、着実に日本を戦争へと向かわせている安倍政権への痛烈な批判だっ た。 





 さらに同番組では、テレビ朝日NHK自民党に 呼び出された一件についても「とにかく、自民党に呼ばれて行ったテレ朝とNHKはいかん。なんで一政党に呼ばれて、言論の自由を守らなければいけない放送 局が出て行く? これが陰ながらの圧力なんだ」「俺は戦いたい。(略)言論の自由っていうのはね、命をかけて守るべきものなんだよ」と発言。政権に忖度し て自粛を繰り返すメディアの姿勢を痛烈に批判した。


 特に日本国は危ない。民主主義、個人主義の発達した欧米では、戦争になっても生命の大事さは重視される。捕虜になって生きて帰ると英雄と言われる。日本 では、捕虜になるくらいなら、自決しろと教わった。いったん戦争になったら、日本では一般の人は、人間として扱われなくなる。
 ボクらの世代は、辛うじて終戦で助かったが、実は当時の政治家や 軍部は、ボクら少年や、母や姉らの女性たちまで動員しようとしていた。11、12歳のボクらは実際に竹槍(たけやり)の訓練をさせられた。校庭にわら人形 を立て、その胸に向かって竹槍(単に竹の先を斜めに切ったもの)で刺すのである。なかなかうまく行かないが、たまにうまく刺さって「ドヤ顔」をしている と、教官に怒鳴られた。「バカモン、刺したらすぐ引き抜かないと、肉がしまって抜けなくなるぞ!」
 どっちがバカモンだろう。上陸してくる米軍は、近代兵器で武装している。竹槍が届く前に、射殺されている。これは「狂気」どころか「バカ」であろう。そ れでもこの愚行を本気で考え、本土決戦に備えていた政治家や軍人がいたのである。彼らの根底にあったのは、「生命の軽視」であったはずである〉

1. the ego

*egoist, egotist : Latin root--the pronoun ego, meaning I
I = the greatest concern in the egoist's mind, the most overused word in the egotist's vocabulary( t in talk, and the additional t in egotist)

*egocentric(noun:自己中心主義者、 adjective:自己中心的な) = you consider yourself the center of the universe; an extreme form of the egoist; not easy to get along with; utterly involved with oneself; self-centered

*egomaniac(noun:病的に自己中心的な人) = you carry egoism to such an extreme that your needs, desires, and interests have become a morbid obsession(病 的な強迫観念), a mania(度を超した愛着); dangerous and slightly mad; not normal; excessively, morbidly obsessed with one's own needs, desires, or ambitions

2. others

other = alter (Latin)

altruism = the philosophy practiced by altruists; philosophy of putting another's welfare above one's own; not selfish

Altruistic(adj.) actions look toward the benefit of others.

If you alternate(v.), you skip one and take the other.
